About this space
Sister's House is my mom's house! Her name was Helen but everyone called her Sister. She worked very hard as a single mom to build her dream home. We wish to welcome you to share in that dream. Sister's favorite part of her home was the huge kitchen as well as the back porch to sit in the early mornings to sip some tea. Sister's House is a traditional-styled Dominica house with ongoing updates since Hurricane Maria. We hope you enjoy Sister's House in Grand Bay. Pls note: NO AC. Older house.
The space
Siste's House is a traditional, Caribbean 90s style house. We have made some updates but kept a lot of the traditional features that you should be aware of:
* tiled floors
*fans instead of AC
*both 110V and 220 V electrical wiring
* wood and plastic kitchen counters
Since Hurricane Maria, we have made updates including:
*repainting, reroofing
*changed half of the windows
*repainted
*completely overhaul the bathroom
However, some hurricane effects remain such as:
*some electrical issues (some bulbs do not work)
*few windows give issues to open
*one kitchen cupboard doesn't open due to water damage
It is an older house that shows its age and hurricane battering in some places. Expect to find some loving wear, quaint aging and old school Caribbean charm.
WiFi is available throughout the home. Netflix or Youtube is available on TV.
The upstairs of the house will be yours for your stay. There are two bedrooms and one bathroom, large kitchen, dining room and living room. One huge front porch and a small back porch.
Guest access
Guests will have the entire upstairs apartment of the house for themselves.
Other things to note
• Please note that the house is wired for both 110v/220v for your convenience. Use caution if you are not sure which is which. Check your electric items. Sister’s House is not responsible for damage.
• Please report any damages before you check out. Call for any issues.
• Please turn off all lights when leaving the house. If you will need a light, you can leave the single outside light on.
• Sometimes there is no water or electrical services from the national utility companies due to storms or repairs. In these cases, still remember to turn off taps and switches.
Please note: NO SMOKING INSIDE the house!! You may smoke outside.
